So this is my first pair of from-scratch pants (well I didn't make the fabric). I know, I know, it's the black and white gingham again, but I've already testified as to my strong feelings about it as a great thing for spring. And also I happened to have a lot of it and needed to try the pants pattern (and alterations) from the wonderful book I might never stop talking about. So black and white gingham it was (plus I like the idea of using it as a neutral against flowered tops, for example, and also i think they could be dressed up and down). What I envisioned was fitted high-waisted capris. I slimmed the legs (the pattern is a basic straight-leg, but she gives you the specifications for making them skinny-leg) but I forgot to extend the waist, so they will be fitted, regular rise capris.
Here's a shot:
So, I'm not quite done. I have to sew the waistband, add the button/button-hole, and hem the bottom. And I have to say, all-in-all it was not as hard as I had feared. I even did a zipper! And it wasn't one of those things where you work so hard on it for so many hours that you start to hate it and resent it and never wear it. I've had lots of sewing projects/meals like that. Once I had cut it out, it really only took a few hours. She gives you lots of pocket options, but I opted for just the flap and fake back pocket effect. Also--those buttons are gold:
(wow that gingham looks trippy in pictures, doesn't it??) I tried them on yesterday once I had sewed up the seams, and while I figured I'd have to take them in a bit, they are fitted, for sure. Ahem.
OK! Off to do two shows today and in-between I am going fabric shopping for dress and skirt fabrics and to find the button for the front of those pants. I also have lots of ideas for new drawings, and I want to get going on flikr. But first, to act....
Have a wonderful wonderful wednesday!! xoxoxo
