Here she is!
I finished her on Tuesday afternoon before the show. After making some adjustments to the pattern I'm quite happy with her...
Something is still missing with the packaging--not sure what yet. But I think I feel finished with the doll...I love the little painted on shoes and socks...
The stubbiness makes me laugh :)
And of course she has a sweet smile underneath the bozo nose.
I'm holding off on listing her in the shop until I make a few more--with variations on the bow/onesie so that each one will be unique.
I know my vintage circus/carnival thing is well-documented here, so it won't be news to anybody that I have more plans in that theme. Last night backstage, I was working on a few sketches for more dolls and came across one I had done a few months ago for a tatooed strong man doll:
I just love the image of the strong man. And so I decided to run with it and do a series of circus-themed dolls. Along with the strong man, the bozo girl, and the baby bozos, I'll also have the harlequinn girls (there are two different harlequinn designs):
And possibly other side-show-types like this little fox girl and boy:
Big plans over here!
We finally have a warm, pretty day and it does such wonders for the spirit. That spring-cleaning thing is so weird to me: every year I really do get an irepressable urge to clean out, purge and organize. On Monday, we tore up our 3 big storage closets throwing away bags of stuff that we had NO IDEA why we hung onto for so long and now have three beautifully organized closets. I feel like I lost 50 pounds of mental weight. About once every hour (that I'm home) I go open them and look at how pretty they look. I bet Martha Stewart does the same thing :)
I have a few old movies lined up for today while I get to work on these new dolls. I don't know how long it will take me to get them made--I was hoping to do two of each except for the baby bozos--I plan to make six of them. So perhaps I'll have them all in the shop in a week or so? I'm also considering making them to order but not sure on that one...
You know what I miss? The cooking and baking part of this blog-adventure. I am just dying to get back into it but this schedule is proving quite difficult to fit that in, unfortunately. I feel like I'm missing a limb! Perhaps soon. I do feel like I'm beginning to catch up for whatever that's worth...hope you're having a lovely, lovely day wherever you are!
P.S.: Neat aritcle in the New York Times in which yours truly is mentioned :) It's weird to be a "part" of such a fancy group--and real nice, too.
